The $PEEDY Story of Greyhound Bus Lines... Greyhound was founded in 1914 by Carl Wickman. Wickman's first "bus" was not a bus at all, it was a 7 passenger car that he used to transport passengers for 15 cents a ride! In 1915, Wickman joined forces with Ralph Bogan who was providing a similar service, and by the end of the year their combined operations had turned an $8,000 profit. That may not sound like a lot, but In 1915 it was a handy sum indeed, equivalent to almost $200,000 buckaroos today. By the end of World War I, Wickman owned 18 buses and his business was raking in $40,000 a year, that's over $1,000,000 in today's money. That's a lot of Greyhound bus tickets, capiche? Fast forward to1926 and Carl Wickman names his operation, Greyhound Lines. By 1928, Greyhound bus fares were racking up a whopping $6,000,000 per year, that's a healthy $75,000,000 adjusted for inflation. Do ya think people used Greyhound coupon codes back then?
