The $PEEDY Story of Greyhound Bus Lines... Greyhound was founded in 1914 by Carl Wickman. Wickman's first "bus" was not a bus at all, it was a 7 passenger car that he used to transport passengers for 15 cents a ride! In 1915, Wickman joined forces with Ralph Bogan who was providing a similar service, and by the end of the year their combined operations had turned an $8,000 profit. That may not sound like a lot, but In 1915 it was a handy sum indeed, equivalent to almost $200,000 buckaroos today. By the end of World War I, Wickman owned 18 buses and his business was raking in $40,000 a year, that's over $1,000,000 in today's money. That's a lot of Greyhound bus tickets, capiche? Fast forward to1926 and Carl Wickman names his operation, Greyhound Lines. By 1928, Greyhound bus fares were racking up a whopping $6,000,000 per year, that's a healthy $75,000,000 adjusted for inflation. Do ya think people used Greyhound coupon codes back then? Unfortunately, by 1931The Great Depression (i.e. The Central Banks) had crippled the American economy, and like many other businesses Greyhound Lines sputtered under a mountain of debt. Even so, as the economy recovered Greyhound managed to pull through. By the end of World War II Greyhound Lines had over 4,700 stations and employed more than 10,000 people. Hooah! As the decades past and more freeways were built, American's wide-eyed love affair with the automobile grew stronger and stronger, lessening their reliance on the good-old Greyhound bus :( Nevertheless, through diversifying their business interests while still providing a valuable transportation alternative to many individuals, Greyhound Lines has continued to operate a successful business for close to 100 years. Bigiddy biggidy booyah! There's no doubt that the Greyhound bus is, and will most likely continue to be, a well-recognized part of the American cultural landscape. Greyhound Bus Lines Today Today Greyhound bus lines offer ground transportation to more than 3,100 destinations across North American and parts of Mexico and Canada with over 16,000 daily departures. That's a lot of trips, and there are free Greyhound bus coupons out there to save on them. That's what we're here for!
In 2008, based on the Megabus system used in Chicago and the UK, Greyhound bus lines announced their BoltBus program in Boston, Washington D.C. and NYC. BoltBus charges from $1 to $25 for Greyhound bus tickets based on demand and advanced booking. We have to say, those are some pretty cheap Greyhound tickets, one may not be looking for Greyhound coupon codes at those rates. Greyhound bus lines are still a great and affordable way to travel about the country, especially when you find some excellent Greyhound coupons! |
